Shown shooting his family, the elder son had claimed in reports to had voices in his head. Later, he was at the Witches Brew Bar when he was arrested by the police.

- One of the more clear parts of fiction related to real life events is the insistence that Ronald DeFeo Jr looked like George Lutz and John Ketchum. Not even the remake, reused that aspect of the story.
